A significant part of the tiny majestic land-locked kingdom of Lesotho is its shepherds; these blanket wrapped boys and men spend their life from the age of about 10 years or even younger, herding their sheep in the mountains, far away from the villages that are usually in the valleys. It’s a really lonely life as they are away from their families and spend a lot of time on their own.
One of my photographic mentors, David Duchemin made an incredible portrayal of these shepherds a few years back that inspired me to capture them on a recent trip there. I followed the warm winter light to portray these strong young men and their wonderfully woolly protégés, as well as finding so much more amongst the Basotho people in this mountainous country.
